U.S. Coast Guard stock image BOSTON — The Coast Guard and Jamestown Police Department rescued a 60-year-old man Sunday off Fort Wetherill, Rhode Island after he fell off his sailboat. At approximately 12:20 a.m., Coast Guard Station Castle Hill received a call from Jamestown Police reporting a man in the water who had been clinging to his boat for about two hours. SEATTLE — The Coast Guard has suspended the search at 1 p.m., Saturday, for Jerry Wayne Middleton, who was last seen aboard a 14-foot skiff in Shilshole Bay. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The Coast Guard rescued two men Saturday after the 40-foot boat the two men were on began to take on water 13 miles west of Anna Maria Island. At 3:30 a.m., watch standers from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a mayday call via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 from the crew aboard the commercial fishing boat Barbara Jean. JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard is responding to a fishing vessel that partially sank Thursday with diesel fuel onboard in Sitka Sound. The owner of the fishing vessel Sandra L reported Friday that there is a visible sheen and has deployed absorbent boom. The tanks onboard have approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel with a potential maximum total of 600 gallons. The owner is in the process of developing a salvage plan for submission to the Coast Guard for review.... [Read More]

HONOLULU — An American tuna fishing company that regularly unloaded its catch in American Samoa, was convicted and sentenced Thursday for discharging oil into the South Pacific and for maintaining false records, announced Assistant Attorney General John C. Cruden of the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division and U.S. Attorney Channing D.
