Coast Guard searches for possible missing people after unmanned boat found

 Coast Guard crewmembers are searching for two possible missing people near Keyport Harbor, New Jersey, after an unmanned 14-foot boat was discovered October 31, 2016.

KEYPORT HARBOR, N.J. - Coast Guard crewmembers are searching for two possible missing people near Keyport Harbor, New Jersey, after an unmanned 14-foot boat was discovered Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York received a report from Monmouth County Police Department at approximately 8 a.m., Monday, of an unmanned 14-foot boat found taking on water near the shoreline in Keyport Harbor.

In response to the possibility of a missing person associated with the unmanned boat, a Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook 29-foot Response Boat crew launched to search the nearby area along with an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City.

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) has been issued in the Keyport Harbor area to alert mariners of two possible missing people.

The Coast Guard urges all mariners to file a float plan if they plan on heading out on the water.

A float plan is as simple as informing someone about where you plan to go and when your return. Be sure the person you share this information with will notify authorities in case of an emergency relating to your boating outing.
