NEW YORK — A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City made a precautionary emergency landing Sunday.
The helicopter was experiencing mechanical issues when the four-person crew made the decision to land at Richmond Country Club in Staten Island, New York.
"Our flight mechanic smelled something," said Elise Roberts, the helicopter pilot who flew the mission. "We were setting up for a precautionary landing when we started losing equipment and decided we needed to land immediately." ... [Read More]

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard medevaced a 45 year-old man Sunday from a 39-foot recreational vessel approximately 44 miles east of Cape May.

NEW YORK — Coast Guard crews are responding an oil spill in the water near the International-Matex Tank Terminal (IMTT) Bayonne, New Jersey, Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York received notification at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday from IMTT crewmembers of an oil spill as a result of an allision between a tug and a fuel terminal pier.... [Read More]

BALTIMORE — Coast Guard Rear Adm. Stephen Metruck, 5th District commander, was named the honorary colonel of the Fort McHenry Guard Saturday at a ceremony at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.
Metruck was the first Coast Guard officer to be named honorary colonel, and this was the first Tattoo at Fort McHenry held in the Coast Guard’s honor.... [Read More]

The Coast Guard is investigating a report made July 29, 2015, by beachgoers of tar balls on the beach in Makaha on Oahu, Hawaii.
Coast Guard Sector Honolulu incident management personnel walked the beaches and found tar balls up to an inch in size scattered along a 1,000-yard stretch of beach and took samples in an attempt to locate the source.

MIAMI — Coast Guard search-and-rescue crews are searching for a 37-year-old diver reported missing approximately seven nautical miles south of Cudjoe Key, Florida, Friday.
Missing is Pedro Fernandez, 37.
Fernandez was reported missing about 6 p.m.

JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard 17th District is scheduled to host its week-long annual District Buoy Tender Roundup in Juneau, Alaska, Aug. 3 - 7.
This year's roundup will include seven U.S. Coast Guard buoy tenders, stationed throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, as well as a Canadian coast guard ship, for five days of training and maintenance. Missing is William Morlock, 58.

HONOLULU — Coast Guard members are continuing to investigate a report of scattered tar balls discovered on a 1,000-yard stretch of Makaha Beach, Friday.
Beachgoers contacted Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Wednesday evening to report tar balls washed ashore. The tar balls reportedly range in size up to 1-inch. Sector deployed personnel from their Incident Management Division to respond and assess the beach. They also notified partners at the State Department of Land and Natural Resources.... [Read More]
