CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Coast Guard boat crew medevaced a 27-year-old man from freight ship about 6 miles offshore in the Matagorda Anchorage Saturday morning. At about 9:20 a.m., the crew of the vessel Boraq called Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders and stated the chief officer had been experiencing blurry vision, headaches and vomiting since suffering a fall Friday. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Coast Guard suspended the search for two kayakers in Memphis, around 8:20 a.m., Saturday. The Coast Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis Fire Department, Memphis Police Department and Good Samaritan crews searched for two kayakers who were reportedly missing from the Wolf River Chute area. Rescue crews began their search after Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi received notification from Good Samaritans that a kayak overturned resulting in two people in the water yesterday morning.... ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — The Coast Guard assisted with the release of 130 sea turtles Thursday into Gulf Stream waters off the Outer Banks. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Cushing, along with their family members, assisted North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission personnel in releasing the sea turtles. The rehabilitated sea turtles were among many that experienced cold-water shock along the North Carolina coast in recent weeks. NEW ORLEANS – Barge recovery operations were completed, in which 1,976,000 gallons of denatured ethanol was successfully removed from barges near Helena, Ark, Thursday. Over a four-day period, 292,000 gallons entered the water. Investigators believe the denatured ethanol was released into the Mississippi River and quickly mixed into the water column, making the released product unrecoverable. NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a barge allision at mile marker 435.8 on the Mississippi River near Vicksburg, Miss., Thursday. The towing vessel Robert D. Byrd allided with the Vicksburg Railroad Bridge at 7:44 a.m. No barges were reported to have broken free. The Mississippi River is open to traffic in the area. The Vicksburg Railroad Bridge will remain closed until a safety inspection is completed by the Vicksburg Bridge Commission and the State of Mississippi.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a barge sinking at mile marker 435.8 on the Mississippi River near Vicksburg, Miss., Wednesday. The towing vessel Inez Andreas allided with the Vicksburg Railroad Bridge, after which two barges broke free, one of which sank. Towing vessels in the area assisted in securing the barge that broke free. A surveyor from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers located the barge that sank and found that it does not pose a hazard to navigation. The river is currently open.... [Read More]
