Norwegian systems integration specialist Høglund Marine Solutions has signed contracts with Babcock LGE and Jiangnan Shipyard to supply gas handling and an integrated automation and control system (IACS) for two Pacific Gas-owned very large ethane carrier (VLEC) newbuilds.
These vessels, which are being built at Jiangnan shipyard in China, will be the first VLEC additions to the Pacific Gas fleet and will be transporting ethane between the USA and Europe.
The two 99,000 cubic meter VLECs are expected to be delivered in Q4 2021 and Q1 2022. ... [Read More]

Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise shipping company, has retrofitted 77 % of its fleet with exhaust gas cleaning systems, commonly known as scrubbers, splashing a total of $500 million on installations to date.

Discussions on a potential merger between Danish shipowner Nordic Shipholding and an unidentified tanker firm have been delayed due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the company said.
“The majority shareholder of the company had commenced merger discussions with a potential entity since late 2019. There are 66 projects zero-emission pilots and demonstration projects underway in shipping, according to the preliminary results of a mapping exercise carried out by the Getting to Zero Coalition.

A consortium between Bolloré and APM Terminals has signed contracts with the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) for the construction of Abidjan’s second container terminal, known as Côte d’Ivoire Terminal (CIT).
CIT is scheduled to be operational at the end of 2021.The consortium will invest € 400 million in the construction of the terminal and equipment. Once completed, the terminal is expected to employ more than 400 people at its go-live, with a similar number of people being employed for its construction.... [Read More]

Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical (STL) has signed shipbuilding contracts with South Korean shipbuilding majors Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries for the construction of four Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) worth a total of $441 million.

German container shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has confirmed new coronavirus cases among its crew.
On 26 August, the company informed that two crew members on board the 8,600 TEU containership Sofia Express tested positive for COVID-19 while the vessel was at anchor at the Port of Vancouver, Canada.
“Local authorities were duly notified and the mariners were immediately isolated and brought to a quarantine facility ashore. We are hoping for a speedy recovery,” the company said in a statement.... [Read More]

The Philippine Coast Guard will continue to pursue criminal charges against the owners of MV Vienna Wood, a Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier, which was involved in a deadly collision with a fishing vessel in June southwest of Manila.

The Port of Oakland’s largest marine terminal Oakland International Container Terminal (OICT) has cut diesel emissions from 13 of its massive yard cranes by 95 percent after retrofitting them with hybrid-electric engines.
