SAN FRANCISCO - The Coast Guard saved two people from their sinking sailboat 17 miles offshore, south of Monterey Friday afternoon.At 4:38 p.m., Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders received a VHF-FM radio transmission distress call from a person aboard a 55-foot sailboat, who reported the vessel was taking on water at a rapid rate. The two people aboard could not identify why the boat was sinking, and the vessel's built-in dewatering pump was not able to keep up with the flooding water.... [Read More]

MIAMI — The Coast Guard advises swimmers to exercise extreme caution while at beaches in South Florida due to a number of recent drownings and near-fatalities from dangerous rip currents caused by high winds and waves this month.

SEATTLE — Personnel from the Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound Incident Management department are responding to a report of a sunken vessel and diesel sheen near La Push, Thursday.
The local harbormaster placed boom around the site to contain any further pollution and the Coast Guard is currently en route to assist with the clean up. They are expected to arrive later this afternoon.... [Read More]

TRENTON, N.J. – Members of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, attended a proclamation reading, Thursday, at the New Jersey State House announcing that the first week of August, each year, will be designated as “Coast Guard Week.”

The Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma seized approximately 1,100 pounds of cocaine and apprehended three Dominican smugglers following an at-sea interdiction March 18, 2015, off the coast of Guayama, Puerto Rico. The seized contraband was estimated to have a wholesale value of approximately $16 million dollars and was transferred March 24, 2015 to Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agents in Puerto Rico for prosecution. A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles conducted two separate hoists over the course of one day near La Push, Wash., March 25, 2015.
The first hoist was of a woman who injured her knee while out on a hike, and the second hoist involved a man who became separated from his friends and was stranded on a cliff by incoming tides.
