FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla — The Coast Guard is responding to a sinking construction barge near Wiggins Beach, Florida, Wednesday. At approximately 12 p.m. watchstanders from Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach, Florida, received a report via Collier County Marine Emergency Response Team activation of a construction barge taking on water near Wiggon’s Beach. It was also reported the two people aboard the tug disconnected the tug before the barge began to sink.... NEW YORK – The Coast Guard, FDNY, NYPD, and the ship’s owners are working together to extinguish a fire aboard the Motor Vessel Grey Shark at Homeport Pier in Staten Island, New York, Wednesday. The Motor Vessel Grey Shark, a 360-foot Panamanian-flagged roll-on/roll-off vessel departed New York on March 11, 2015, bound for the Caribbean Sea with 13 crewmembers aboard. On Saturday, one of the vessel’s two engines had ceased to operate, causing the master of the ship to make the decision to return to New York for repairs.... [Read More]

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching Tuesday with a research vessel crew for a person in the water approximately 1,500 miles southeast of Bermuda. A C-130 Hercules aircraft crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, arrived on scene at about noon and joined the search for a 31-year-old male from Papua New Guinea who was noticed missing Monday aboard the Russian-flagged research vessel Professor Logachev at approximately 6:30 p.m....   Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Saginaw River, located in Essexvile, Mich., transfer a man who had fallen through the ice with his snowmobile on Saginaw Bay near Pinconning, Mich., from a rescue sled into an airboat Monday, March 16, 2015. The crew rescued the man, who was in the beginning stages of hypothermia, and took him to shore where he was evaluated by emergency medical services and released. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg responded to 12 search and rescue calls over the weekend.
