SAULT STE MARIE, Michigan — Coast Guard crews continue to respond to a grounded freighter in Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior Friday night.
The motor vessel Roger Blough, an 833 ft U.S. Cargo vessel, has run aground in the vicinity of Gros Cap Reef in Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior with reports of flooding.
All crew members are reported safe with no injuries. Crew reports no sign of pollution in the water.
Responding are Coast Guard boat crews from Sector Sault Ste Marie, Michgian, and Aids to Navigation Team Sault Ste Marie, and and air crew from Air Station Traverse City, Michigan.
Coast Guard pollution responders, vessel inspectors and marine casualty investigator arrived on board the vessel to assess vessel damage and crew safety.
The Coast Guard has dispatched the cutter, Mobile Bay, a 140-foot ice breaking tug out of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to assist in on-going response operations.
The Coast Guard has issued a Captain of the Port Order for the Blough to maintain an on scene support boat until further notice.
The Coast Guard is currently monitoring the situation and overseeing future salvage operations.
A Coast Guard response boat is scheduled to remain on scene throughout the night.
