Harrity, a 27-year-old native of Jupiter, Fla., individually pulled four fishermen more than 250 yards in 57-degree water from their life raft to shore.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Darren Harrity, an aviation survival technician assigned to Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, Ore., and his fiance, Chelsey Larsen, stand with Rear Adm. The Coast Guard Medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who, while serving in any capacity with the Coast Guard, distinguishes himself or herself by heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.
