Coast Guard rescues 6 boaters near Point Bonita

SAN FRANCISCO — Six boaters were rescued near Point Bonita in Sausalito, Monday morning.Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders were notified at 10:12 a.m., Monday, of a 42-foot recreational fishing vessel that had navigated outside of the channel and struck submerged rocks, causing minor injuries to one person aboard.The Coast Guard Cutter Aspen was within the vicinity of the vessel when the incident occurred and diverted to render immediate assistance to the distressed boaters. Additionally, two response boatcrews were launched to assist from Coast Guard Station Golden Gate. They coordinated the rescue with Marin County and Southern Marin Fire Departments.The recreational fishing vessel was assessed for damage, put in tow and safely transferred to Vessel Assist to be transported to a haul-out facility to conduct repairs. Additionally, a Coast Guard boatcrewman administered basic first aid to one boater who suffered a minor head injury. The injured person was medically evacuated by Southern Marin Fire Department for additional care."Situational awareness is imperative for all boat drivers on the bay, paying particular attention to channel markers and rocky waters can help prevent an unsafe situation. We were able to quickly respond and, in coordination with Southern Marin Fire, render necessary assistance to help the boaters out of a dangerous situation," said Petty Officer Robert Worobey, a response boat coxswain at Station Golden Gate.
