Coast Guard, partner agencies respond to cruise ship grounding in Boston Harbor

BOSTON – The Coast Guard along with partner agencies is responding to the grounding of the Majesty, a 113-foot Boston Harbor Cruise Ship, with 152 people aboard Saturday night.

At approximately 7 p.m. Coast Guard Sector Boston received notification that the Majesty had run aground near Georges Island in Boston Harbor.

No injuries, damage to the boat, or pollution have been reported.

Coast Guard crews from Station Point Allerton and Station Boston launched immediately to assist. In addition, Massachusetts State Police, Massport Fire Department, and Massachusetts Environmental Police also launched to assist.

All of the passengers were safely transferred by the responding agencies to the Boston Harbor Cruises vessel Asteria by approximately 8:20 p.m.

The Asteria safely transported the passengers to Boston's Long Wharf.

The Coast Guard and five crewmembers from the Majesty are remaining on scene pending a plan to re-float the vessel. 

The Majesty is owned and operated by Boston Harbor Cruises. The company is fully cooperating with the Coast Guard in the investigation of the grounding.
