Coast Guard asks public to help enhance navigation of Anclote River

August 29, 2016

TAMPA, Fla. — The Coast Guard is asking mariners to participate Wednesday in a Waterway Analysis and Management System study to enhance navigation of the Anclote River.

Coast Guard aids-to-navigation crew members have received multiple reports of shallow water along the river and want to ensure navigation is clearly and correctly marked.

The study is a routine means to gain feedback from the public to ensure aids, such as buoys, lights and day boards, are adequate and meet the needs of mariners transiting the area.

"WAMS are done to review the effectiveness of the aids to navigation in a waterway," said Chief Warrant Officer Darren Pauly, the aids to navigation officer at Sector St. Petersburg. "Public feedback is important, and the survey provides a way for the public to provide input."

WAMS studies are conducted throughout the year for waterways all around the country and focus on the area's anchorage, aids-to-navigation system, waterborne commerce, marine casualty information, port/harbor resources and future development projects.

Any interested company or individual wishing to provide comments or participate in a user survey should use the following link:

Mariners will be able to comment until Oct. 14, 2016.
