NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard kicked off the start of National Safe Boating Week with Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day at many of its units along the Gulf Coast and throughout the heartland Friday.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is scheduled to establish a temporary regulated area Tuesday and Wednesday in designated waters in the Severn River and College Creek for a Blue Angels air show.
The regulated area will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, which may limit or prohibit navigation by commercial and recreational waterway users.... [Read More]

HUMBOLDT BAY, Calif.— Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay is scheduled to receive 16 new crewmembers and a fourth helicopter Saturday.The temporary placement of an additional MH-65 helicopter and crews in Humboldt Bay is part of a wider reassignment of aircraft and personnel from Air Station Los Angeles, which is being decommissioned Friday."We welcome our shipmates and the new helicopter from Los Angeles to the North Coast," said Cmdr. SEATTLE — Coast Guard personnel rescued two men from a boat taking on water near Iceberg Island, Washington, Wednesday afternoon.
A Coast Guard Station Bellingham boatcrew, aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium, safely removed the two men from the 40-foot vessel and transported them to Anacortes while there vessel was towed to Port Townsend by Vessel Assist.... [Read More]

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard located three boaters reported as overdue, south of Destin, Florida, Wednesday.
A Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-130 Hercules aircrew spotted the sailing vessel Ekkia making way south of Destin at 2 p.m.
After the aircrew made contact with the vessel, it was determined the Ekkia crew were reportedly not in distress.
Family members reported the vessel as missing to Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders, Friday evening.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard released its 2015 Recreational Boating Statistics report Tuesday, revealing that boating fatalities nationwide that year totaled 626, the third-lowest number of yearly boating fatalities on record.
From 2014 to 2015, injuries decreased from 2,678 to 2,613, a 2.4 percent decrease; deaths increased from 610 to 626, a 2.6 percent increase; and the total number of accidents increased from 4,064 to 4,158, a 2.3 percent increase.
