Overdue boater located in Bahamas

MIAMI — A boater who was reported overdue to the Coast Guard arrived in the Bahamas Thursday after being delayed due to engine trouble.

Venice Graham left Hallandale Beach around 8 p.m. Wednesday to transit to South Bimini. A friend contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard District 7 at about 9 a.m. Thursday to report Graham overdue.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Air Station Miami assisted in the search for Graham.

"I'm glad that Mr. Graham is safe and we have a positive outcome for this case," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Stefan Overton, Search and Rescue Duty Officer for the District 7 Command Center. "Cell phone service isn't always available and coverage can be affected when traveling outside the United States. The Coast Guard encourages all mariners to outfit their boat with proper marine radio equipment so they can communicate with other boaters and the Coast Guard if they experience trouble with their boat."
