NEW YORK — Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Fire Island rescued two people after their boat ran aground near East Fire Island, Friday.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., Friday, Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a call from Suffolk County Dispatch with a report of a vessel aground with eight people aboard, near Great Captain’s Island, New York
Station Fire Island crewmembers aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small arrived on scene to find two people with minor injuries requiring assistance.
The two injured people and one family member were safely transferred aboard the Coast Guard smallboat.While underway back to Station Fire Island, the EMT aboard the smallboat administered basic medical treatment to the two individuals.
The awaiting EMS crew on shore transfered the individuals to Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Islip Harbor Police stayed on scene with the remaining five people until a commercial salvage vessel could remove the boat from the sandbar.
