SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated an 87-year-old woman from a cruise ship approximately 58 miles northwest of San Diego, Monday morning.
The crew of the cruise ship Carnival Imagination contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders at approximately 12:45 a.m., Monday reporting that a female passenger had sustained a head injury after a fall and was experiencing seizures.
The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched at approximately 2 a.m., arrived on scene, then safely hoisted the woman into the helicopter at approximately 3 a.m.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 4 a.m., where the patient was transferred to awaiting EMS and later taken to UCSD Hillcrest Hospital in San Diego.
