Coast Guard Cutter Resolute returns home to St. Petersburg, Fla.

March 23, 2015

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.— The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Resolute returned to their homeport in St. Petersburg on Monday, following a two-month patrol in the Caribbean Sea.

The crew supported a multi-agency law enforcement effort under Operation Southeast Watch and Unified Resolve which focuses on the deterrence of illegal migration and narcotics trade.

While underway, the crew repatriated 59 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitian, Haiti, disrupted 950 kilograms of contraband and rescued eight Cuban migrants stranded on a cliff in Monito Island, Puerto Rico.

“The patrol was very successful due to the monumental efforts made by the crew through many weeks of advanced training and nearly four months of intensive maintenance which kept a 48-year-old ship running strong,” said Cdr. Matthew T. Brown, commanding officer of the Resolute.

The Resolute is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter, which operates in the offshore maritime environment under the command of Coast Guard Atlantic Area headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia.  Other missions include maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, defense readiness, and ports waterways and coastal security.
