Coast Guard conducts non-maritime medevac of 36-year-old male off Catalina

LOS ANGELES — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 36-year-old male off Catalina Island Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call from the Catalina Island Medical Center in Avalon at about 4 a.m., reporting that a male suffered head injuries after overturning his golf cart.A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Los Angeles was launched to assist, after low visibility made it difficult for Mercy Air or Los Angeles County Fire Air to respond.

The Coast Guard aircrew safely hoisted and transferred the male to St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach.
