Bay Area Coast Guard unit receives Reserve Family Readiness Award

February 26, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO — A Bay Area Coast Guard unit is scheduled to receive the Reserve Family Readiness Award at the Pentagon Hall of Heroes in Washington, District of Columbia, Friday at 10 a.m. EST.

Coast Guard Port Security Unit 312 is recognized as one of seven Reserve units with the best programs to support their military families.

Richard O. Wightman, Jr., Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Reserve Affairs), will host the 2014 Department of Defense Reserve Family Readiness Awards ceremony and present PSU 312 a commemorative plaque and a framed certificate. The unit will also receive a cash award from the Military Officers Association of America. The cash award is to be used to further enhance the unit's family support programs.

The DOD RFRA program was established in 2000 to recognize the top unit family readiness program in each of the Reserve components. Family readiness programs are particularly important as the United States relies on significant numbers of reservists to serve in critical locations worldwide.

For more information on the award and San Francisco-based Coast Guard families, contact Lt. Dawn Black at (650) 808-2805.
